What is Makla chewing tobacco?

Makla is loose chewing tobacco: an oral tobacco product placed under the lip that releases nicotine quickly through the oral mucosa. Made from pure Rustica tobacco, without artificial flavors or additives. At Snushus, you can buy authentic Makla varieties, such as Africaine Bentchikou, Bouhlel Rouge, or Ifrikia, at volume prices with free shipping from Switzerland: order by 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and receive it tomorrow. No sales to anyone under 18.

Makla is a North African form of chewing tobacco. The name comes from Arabic and means “food.” Traditionally, Makla has been made by Belgian manufacturer Sifaco (founded in 1979) from sun-dried Rustica tobacco, without artificial flavors or additives. In the mouth, Makla releases nicotine very quickly and provides an intense, spicy tobacco flavor.

Makla vs. snus: the difference

Snus is finely ground and usually packaged in pouches. Makla, on the other hand, consists of cut tobacco leaves, is sold loose, and is shaped into a small ball by the consumer. Makla is drier, more intense, and releases nicotine faster than portioned snus.

Makla varieties at Snushus

At Snushus, you can get four authentic Makla varieties, all without artificial flavors:

Makla Bouhlel Rouge Bentchikou: This variety is free from artificial flavors and additives, allowing you to enjoy the tobacco flavor in its most natural form. Its nicotine content is 12 mg/g, making it an intense choice among snus tobacco products.
Makla Africaine Bentchikou: Spicy tobacco flavor with a nicotine content of 11 mg/g, without flavors or additives.
Makla Ifrikia: A bold taste experience with a nicotine content of 11 mg/g.
Makla 4.0 (Loose): Made from sun-dried Rustica tobacco leaves, this tobacco offers a mild yet powerful kick.

How is Makla consumed?

Form the loose tobacco into a small ball and place it under your upper lip. Saliva moistens the tobacco, and the nicotine is absorbed quickly. Do not swallow the tobacco juice, as this can cause nausea. It is usually kept in place for 15 to 60 minutes.

Is Makla legal in Switzerland?

Yes, Makla is chewing tobacco and is legally available to adults in Switzerland. While loose chewing and chewing tobacco is more strictly regulated in Germany, chewing tobacco can be legally purchased in Switzerland. Snushus delivers exclusively to people aged 18 and over within the applicable legal framework.

What types of Makla are available at Snushus?

At Snushus, you can get Makla Bouhlel Rouge, Makla Africaine Bentchikou, Makla Ifrikia, and Makla 4.0. All varieties are made without artificial flavors; the nicotine content is 11–12 mg/g, depending on the variety.

How strong is Makla, or how much nicotine does it contain?

The nicotine content of Bouhlel Rouge is 12 mg/g, while that of Africaine, 4.0, and Ifrikia is 11 mg/g each. Since Makla is consumed loose and comes into direct contact with the oral mucosa, its effects set in very quickly and intensely. Makla is therefore best suited to experienced users.
